When did the EA-111 engine appear?

With over 20 years of existence, the EA-111 engine emerged after the end of Autolatina, a project to integrate the Volkswagen and Ford factories and their respective operations, to share engine manufacturing costs and leverage the strengths of each.

At the time, VW stopped using the CHT engine originally from Ford and developed its own engine named EA-111 for some of its vehicles, which soon became one of the best rated engines on the national market.

Manufacturing of the EA-111 engine

The EA-111 engine was produced at the VW engine factory in São Carlos-SP, which has already produced approximately 10 million engines for the brand's vehicles.

Currently, this type of engine is no longer produced in Brazil and, in its place, in 2013, the new EA-211 version appeared.

What engines does the EA-111 have?

The Volkswagen EA-111 engine, or Power, as it's known, has undergone several evolutions to reach its current models. This engine began as a 1.0-liter engine, then expanded to a 1.6-liter engine in 2001 and a 1.4-liter engine in 2005, which was developed exclusively for the Kombi utility vehicle.

1.4 EA-111 engine

For those looking to balance power and economy, cars with a 1.4-liter engine are a great option. It offers greater performance compared to a 1.0-liter without significantly increasing fuel consumption.

1.6 EA-111 engine

For those who want more powerful engines, cars with 1.6 engines have better starting, allowing for fewer gear changes and offering more agility when overtaking. However, when it comes to fuel economy, these models aren't recommended.
